HELP!!! motor ate the dipstick
Just got done doing some upgrades...headers among them. I had the dipstick tube out. I fired it up and was checking everything and noticed no oil pressure. I shut it down and checked the oil. The dipstick was broken off. I know I will need to get the rest of it out but how did this happen? Anyone ever hear of this before? Thanks a ton for any help. I'm very nervous right now.

How can this even happen? The dip-stick can only go in so far.

Seen it B-4, the tube & stick istalled at the same time & the stick gets bent over & then....

This sounds like a good reason to put the tube in without the dipstick and then isert the stick. I'm going to do it that way when I put my heads back on after reading this. You would think that the crank would push the stick out of the tube if it hit it instead of grabbing it and breaking it off.

Re: HELP!!! motor ate the dipstick
Hmmm I did put the whole thing back in as one piece. I know I won't do it that way again. So I should drop the pan and fish out the pieces of the dipstick? I had the motor running and nothing sounded differant or anything. I can't believe the dipstick is that close to the crank though.

Re: HELP!!! motor ate the dipstick
I wouldn't want to leave it in there, looks like your gonna have-ta pull the pan.
Maybe see if you can get it thru the drain plug hole w/a magnet??
I'd just be sure you get the whole thing.
Was there an oil pressure issue?

No oil pressure issue until I fired it up. I noticed no oil pressure but I didn't do anything internal to the motor. Where is the oil pressure sender? I may have broken it during my installs.

I had the intake off and it's a real bitch to get back on with the speed inc high flow rails. The bolts will only come up so far before they hit the rails. I'll check the sensor.

Re: HELP!!! motor ate the dipstick
Sure enough I broke the oil sender. I was able to get the dipstick piece out just by running a magnet over the pan and pulling it to the drain plug.

That is the best ending to a such an awful begining I have ever heard. Minus that guy who got clocked doing 150 or so by the helicopter police and got off with no ticket.
