It would really help to post a pic of what you are dealing with. You said a nut on a stud, but I'm not aware of (or can't think of one) you would have to remove to swap the cam.

^^ I agree with you, pics are always good. FYI, I believe this to be a ARP head stud, middle one, bottom row by the headers. He is trying to replace the lifters so the head has to come off.

BTW, I would have grabbed a sharp chisel a long time ago and it would have been taken care of.

First of all, make sure that once you get this taken care of, you use a 1/2" 12-point socket. Those nuts are not 13mm. That is probably why it stripped. I have never had that happen. Also, make sure you clean the threads above the nut before trying to remove it as this can cause gaulling of the threads. At this point, your best option is a nut extractor hammered on then use a large ratchet or breaker bar. Do not use an impact, this will only strip the nut even more. If you are already past all of these options, the torch and chisel are your friends...

Sorry man,

Shane

I just assumed they were 13mm, since everything else on these damn cars are metric. I've taken the heads off twice with no problems. I just returned every nut extractor and replaced my Craftsman 1/2" sockets I purchased this weekend. Well, even if I do split the nut off I need to remove the stud as well. I don't trust it anymore. Tomorrow we are going to weld another nut on top and hope it comes off. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.............................

Well, we ended up just using a cut off wheel. Nothing else worked. Good thing I ordered a new stud and nut during the week. No damage and the stud came out no problem after we cut the nut off and removed the heads. Now I just need to put her back together...........
