The pistons I had were not some random set for some random engine. They were going to be used for a 421 stroker LS engine I was building. I compared these pistons to some Diamonds made for a 427 stroker (the one that went kabloom not too long ago on here) and everything about the Probes looked considerably stronger. If I had not gone forced induction I would still be using the Probes and not hesitating to spray them. But what do I know.

I don't know what you know but I know I have probably seen 1000 times more of those pistons than you have and used them all too the last 7 years. What actual piston number was it from Probe? Maybe that one's an exception or were they custom. Probes are generally the exact opposite of what you are saying with the old school style forgings and semi-thin decks. They tend towards being very short and very light in all areas.

They don't want to clearance for #8 is why they told me they do the CHs they do with the longer rods. I have had probes that weigh less than 340 grams here and have several like that. Like I said they work fine except under extremely abusive situations so I have still had good luck on those apps. We made one of the first 500 RWHP deals with J-Rod on here and some of the super light Probes but I wouldn't have ever sprayed them.

I can try to get the part # but I traded rotating assembly's with someone on this forum to lower my compression. The pistons were 4.030 and designed for a 4.125 stroke with a standard (6.125) rod. I can't remember if we were going to have to notch #8 when we did test fitment, but as soon as my roomate gets home I can tell you.

I will also try and find pictures. I believe we did side by side comparisons of the skirts/ringlands/bottoms of the pistons.

Believe me when I got the pistons I was afraid they weren't going to hold up to what I had planned for it. You only hear the big three on this forum (Mahle, Wiseco, Diamond) so I was a bit leery. Probe personally said they would take a 250 shot, if not more. And the old codger I go to for machining said he has never had any problems with them.

The true test is going to be in the other guys build as I hear he is going to be spraying quite a bit

Thumbs up

Like I said it all depends on which actual part number but I have had good luck with their stuff in many apps. The Wisecos we usually use though are simply much more advanced but of course they are more money so everything has it's place.

Alright, images are uploaded. Pistons were off the shelf. Their website is deceiving-Instead of going with the 6.200 rod I went smaller and made up more in crank. During test fitment my roomate found we were not going to have to notch #8 for the reluctor wheel. Nor were we going to have to notch the block either as the crank had plenty of clearance (LQ Iron block). Typical windage tray clearance is still necessary. These are not cheap pistons by any means. They are comparable to other forged pistons in price. I will leave others to decide if they are comparable in quality.

*Added some shots of Wiseco pistons. They are for a different setup, but it's interesting seeing the similar casting style between Wiseco and Probe. Now I only need pictures of some Mahles
