Definitely get the stall first. I have been running a TCI 3500 since 2004 with no problems.

Seems ur tight on cash don't do the converter cause it will shorten the life of your tranny especially since it's your dd. It will give the most improvement though. Get a custom cam spec'd

Most every one is right on the stall. The REASON is the factory cam and converter that is in the car is for the normal driver and rules of manufacturing. A stall converter will put the engine into the power range of the factory cam and produce results. For example, I like many, were in the same boat you are in right now. I put in a Vig 3200, which you will get a free stall upgrade within 2 years, is pleanty of time to save and make a cam decision. It massively improved the smile factor! The ET dropped a few tenths as advertised. If you get the stall now, you can come up with a package for the motor and have 2 years to do it. Good Luck!
PS, you may want to find a tuner to adjust the trans not to hurt it.

You could easily do a 224 cam with a stock converter, it's all in what you want, will likely be slightly more responsive from idle with that cam and will idle around 600-700rpm and not push through the brakes.

If I had to do it again I'd start with the converter though.

This is a good option as well.....

I think it also matter how many miles are on his car and how the trans has been serviced. I want to stall my car buy am having second thought about putting one in with the stock trans with 70k miles....

Since it is a DD I cant get stranded with a broken trans. If it did break I'd be in a sticky situation as I don't have 1800-2500 laying around for a good trans to be built.

This is something the OP should take into consideration

With a good tranny cooler setup your transmission should run cooler than stock..

Go back to sleep. If he was here for straight-up longevity, the answer would be to leave it stock. Put a big cooler on it and it will survive.

A stall is a lot less intrusive to delicate parts than a stalll.

Get the stall first. Ask me how I know.

hijacking, my tranny has just over 100k on it with no signs of killing over soon would putting in a stall really hurt it that bad? And if i went with a stall 3000-3400 would a tune be required? Any help would be appreciated.

Well I'm at 40k miles - and by servicing the transmission - what exactly do you mean by that?
