worn out valve spring question (918's)
worn out valve spring question (918's) How much power would one lose with worn out springs? I have done the rest of my bolt ons and I need to know if I should replace my valve springs before getting my tune updated. I have about 75,000 miles on the 918's and I'm thinking about buying some Patriot Gold dual springs before refreshing the tune. I was told that the car would be down a lot on power with worn out springs. I haven't raced it much since the cam/spring install but it's my daily driver so I racked up some miles on them.
you could be down 0 horsepower or 100,it completely depends on if the springs are no longer able to keep the valve closed at high rpm.If they are still doing there job you wont be down at all,but if there not you could possibly be down a lot.With that many miles i would just change them out to the duals,or just get 918's again,either way.

I'm guessing you mean the springs taking set, instead of wearing out. I would say a spring is either in 1-piece or in multiple pieces. Aside from fatigue life, springs can lose load (taking set).
I would be more concerned with a spring breaking. You'll save money reusing seats and retainers by just buying PAC-1218 or 26918 springs. Are you running more then both .600" lift and 7000 RPM? Duals are probably just overkill...
