my ls6 block and my thoughts on it
ok since i have my heads off my car i decided to check out the casting numbers and lo and behold i have the ls6 block, well i did some searching and found one thread where this vette guy was ranting about how just because some camaro guys have the block doesnt mean they have an ls6. well i geuss thats right but what about me. i have the ls6 block, ls6 intake, and now i have some ported 243's, so do i have a ls6. i mean only thing left is the rotating assembly, was something else different on the vette's, did they have like some lightened pistons and rods or something? just wondering
i was kinda wondering the same thing. i was thinking of going the whole ls6 route but then again i might just try to find a ls2 out of a wrecked gto and do a full swap.

true true, my plan is to get a 408 and throw some big valve l98 heads, but thats a ways down the road when and if i blow my ls1 (or ls6) up.

The LS6 had higher compression ratio, and I think some of the rod bolts and misc small stuff like that were stronger. You have any #'s on your car? I'm thinking about getting my 243's ported as well.
well the heads will give it the higher compression, slightly smaller cc. but no i don't have any numbers yet once the heads are on I'm gonna get VA speed to dyno tune it and get some numbers on and off spray. hoping for high 400's on motor and high 500's on spray
Ah wasn't sure if it was the heads or the pistons. My numbers are in sig, same cam basically but stock 243 heads and LS6 intake, so mid 400's is highly possible for you. I wouldn't hope for high 400's unless you go with a bigger cam.

and arc00TA you probably are right on with the numbers, maybe i should do some more research about what i need to get my numbers higher on motor. i dont want to have to rely on n2o to win races. maybe a fast 90/90 and bigger cam.

There are differences in the LS6 block vs having a Z06 w/ the LS6 engine. I lot of f-body guys make a big deal about having an ls6 block and state it is an ls6 engine. over 80% of the 02 cars had ls6 blocks and 20% of 01 cars had them.

Real LS6 heads had sodium filled valves.
The major difference in LS1/LS6 blocks is that LS6 blocks breathe better..via bay windows..& they have a different PCV system as a result.
LS6 blocks produced in 2004 started using LS2 head bolts.

Ya they have the PCV system difference, the block had better oiling system( either had more oil passages, or they were just enlarged), heads, intake, cam, pistons were coated, valves are different etc
And the benefits of having an LS6 block are so minute, why care. FWIW, I have witnessed a factory LS1 replacement that was an LS6 block, 241 heads and the car, an A4 ran high 13's to low 14's. Really fellas, it's time to stop beating this dead horse.
all 01/02's came with the LS6 intake so thats not a big deal at all. and putting 243's on yourself doesnt really count as an ls6, but who cares? just a difference in number, call it what you want, but it doesnt really mean anything.
im just wondering how come if the factory puts it on it means something, but if i put them on it doesnt? they were taken off a z06 vette, so they obviously have all ls6 valves filled with whatever. and now they are ported. it doesnt make too much difference to me really, i was just wondering.
They work OK in smaller displacement (5.3) motors, too.
They're also easy on the valve train.
I liked the way my car ran with even just an '01 Ls6 cam/intake/MACs.
I turned 112 with it.
Bone stock C5 Z06's have run as fast as 116.

You can easily build a better engine than a stock LS6. The point is, just because you put an LS6 intake and 243 heads, it's not an LS6 engine. By the way, the Z06 LS6 intake is different (85mm vs. 78mm) than the F-body & vette LS6 intake.
