Default About to order my cam, have some questions

Im about to order a tr224 cam for my 1970 gto with a 2004 gto ls1 auto trans. This is going to be a daily driver. My question is 112 or 114lsa. I know a 114 is better for a dd. My question is--is the 112 idle much different than the 114? Is it to rough for a dd? After all its going into a muscle car. Does the 114 loose alot of its midrange? Do I have to have the car tuned? I know thats alot of questions but I always get great info from this site. Thanks

A lot of people dd a 112, it all depends on your tuner. a tune can make all the difference in the world.

go 112 ur only running the 224 and not the 224r so u dont have the more aggresive lobes which will help. i have the 224r on a 112 and i dd my 2000 ta. my friend has a 224 on a 114 and it sounds sick still but not as lumpy. ur torque curve is going to move is a dif also. if u run the 112 ull make more down low which is better for a heavy street car

It's not going to make that much difference. Go with the 112. Like you said, it's a muscle car.

I have that cam with a 112 in my camaro. It has a nice idle, you'll like it. It even ran before it was tuned perfectly. Go with 112.

A 224 cam with 112 is fine for a dd plus the torque curve will be lower in the rpm's with the 112lsa whitch is better on the street. Aka more useable power.

114LSA better as a daily.

112 better suited to M6 cars.

Don't be scared to run a lower LSA cam if you want to. A good tune and you will be fine. The only bitch I have is my cold start idle can be a little temperamental but after about a minute everything is great even in sub freezing weather.....

i would recomend te 112 just because it will sound a little better, and it will still be well behaved (unless you want your car to drive like a Buick). You cant go wrong either way. Good luck!!

Don't rule out the 228R camshafts either. dyno testing constanly shows a solid 8hp gain over the 224 camshaft with very very little change to driveability. We've swapped 224s for 228s several times with good results.

The 112 lsa will be fine. It has a very very subtle chop to it. It should get tuned, but will run ok without it. Might surge a little and maybe try to die sometimes when you come to stop. Really should have a tune though when you go changing valve events like that.
