I've been looking around on various sites, but haven't found and answer. The question is this:
A number of cams give a power band RPM (i.e. 800-6000, or 1500-6500, 2200-6800), and I was wondering if that is what you would need to set your idle at after installing a cam, just what you would need to rev to before you could move, or has some other specific meaning?
Just wondering for my own future reference. Thanks to anyone who cares to answer.

No, thats just where the power band really kicks in. (2200-6800) would totally suck if you had to set your idle at 2200 rpms.

 

Right, those ranges are describing the powerbands of each cam.

With most small - medium cams, you want your M6 idling around 800-850, and with big cams 900-1000.

If you want a nice power increase and maximum engine longevity, I'd look for a combo that you shift by 6500.
