What is the most agressive cam a stock 01 LS1 can handle without having to start replacing the rest of the valvetrain. I want to get the most out of this engine with just a cam swap(maybee springs too).

stock if you dont ungrade the valve train......... If you do bolt ons, springs and pushrods (should really do a ls6 oil pump and a ls2 timing chain) and want a BIG cam look into the MS3, MS4 or Tsunami from texasspeed, Trex from Thunder, Vindicator from vengence or The pulluter from Tick

to change on a stock LS1 for a cam swap is springs and push-rods.
The stock springs get valve-float any time above 5,500rpm on a bog stock engine.
The push-rods are prone to flexing if used with after-market cams.

You can but I wouldnt reuse the lifters. I would do the kit http://texas-speed.com/shop/item.asp...d=175&catid=49 LS7 lifters ( you have to pull the heads for the lifters), LS2 timing cahin and a ls6 oil pump

I want to thank everyone for their input. I think i have decided on the setup. Keep in mind this will be all this motor will see in upgrades.
From T S&P
MS4 with 112 LSA
Comp PRC Spring Kit
Hardened Chromoly Pushrods 7.40"
Necessary gaskets
GM LS2 Timing Chain
TSP Ported LS6 Oil Pump
I will also be getting a TC with a stall between 3500 and 4000.
Now i just have to sell some parts to get this going. This is the dyno run a few weeks ago. Stock LS1 with headers.

you may also want to look into a new crank pully. You can pcik up an extra 5 hp for less than $100, and it wont be any harder to do seeing as though the pully and belt have to come off already. TSP i think sells the pully so you could just add it onto your order.
same thing goes for a lid.
you may already have those but yyou didnt mention it yet.
