Default Reverse split for a n/a stroker?

I'm kinda bored and was thinking about this. I've only seen a few different cams for the big motors. Has a reverse split been tried? They seem to work well on 346's.

11B, I'm interested in this topic as well. I wonder how a 231/237 would fare in a 383, or would u have to up the duration to something like 236/242?? Interesting to think about....

Also what kind of lift would u need on a cam like that? Keeping in mind trying to salvage as much life out of the valvetrain as possible, but I see some serious springs as inevitable on that combo.

Any cam gurus out there care to drop their .02?

I plan on running a monster sized reverse split on the 409 while N/A. Something like a 266/262 .690 lift. Since no one else I know of has tried it yet, I'm going to. The reverse split worked extremely well for me before, and I'm willing to try it again.

Hey 11b I'm in Iraq to at the moment. So do you run at the track in Fayetteville? I'm anxiuos to see that 427 at the track. I plan on modding when I get home but I was just gonna go with H/C though.

Those cams you mentioned are regular splits, not reverse split.

What's up bro? Shoot, I moved back to Fayetteville last December, lived there 8 weeks before we deployed so I never went to the track. You bet I will be there when I get back, I live about 10 minutes from it. What are you running?

Even more so on a stroker. The LS1's exhaust is so effiecent that the intake has to be crutched with duration and lift. Now add CID under that and you have amplified the problem of cylinder fill. I know that the new AFR heads will be a more traditional % of Intake to Exhaust and that a reverse may not be needed on those.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see how the AFR heads do on the big motors. I actually mailed JP to see what he thought, cause I was thinking about getting on a list for some. But I will just wait. Most 4**ci strokers I see on here run the 242 or 244 single patterns, seen a few regular splits. I guess I will experiment with new grinds like the 346 guys have been doing, and you see the power they put out nowadays. Should be fun.

Also take into account what heads you have. For instanace, the TEA heads seem to love reverse split, but then again LGM, TSP, etc are making good power with the standard split. My JPR heads made some good power with the TSP 231/237, but who knows what they could have done with a reverse split. Call up JPR and see what his heads like - maybe instead of a reverse split you might just need a single pattern.

All of these guys should be able to give the % on the numbers of flow. If it is in the 75% range it will be a single pattern. If it is over 80% then a reverse is needed. RPM also is critical and helps to determine this.

Hi Chris,

Trouble with the blanket statement that "reverse" camshafts would work in every stroker applications may be misleading and maybe even wrong. The entire exhaust "tract" must be taken into consideration as well as the piston speed as it relates to the stroke used. Remember my FoMoCo designs that had the "so-called" camshaft experts wondering! I think the same may apply here...

I'm still awaiting news from AFR and Comp on their newest pieces and how those parts effect the "norm" that some people use when designing/copying LS1 camshaft profiles. Should know more next month...

Have fun on these boards Chris!

BTW... This is one smart dude people.

I won't tell any one you own a M3 buddy...

Ed

Well I got a 01 z28 with macs/cats and free mods and lid. My current best is 12.9@111 on a 2.1 60 ft. I am not going to spend over 3500 so I'm thinking I will either get a 12 bolt/W 4.10S and a good clutch or the 5.3l stage 2's from patriot and that new TSP 231/237 CAM. I'm not sure yet but we will see. I'll be back in April I look foward to seeing you there. So you in 82nd?

Hey, man, yeah, I'm in 1-325 air. The setup you want should be strong. We will probably have the fastest LS1's in town
