Swapping motors and ran into problem with timing chain

Default Swapping motors and ran into problem with timing chain

So I swapping my 5.3 out for a ls1 in my truck, i was in the process of switching everything over and I saw that the timing chain sprocket on the ls1 is alot different than the one on my 5.3. I think its part of an aftermarket chain set. What should i do now?? Do i have to take both motors to a shop and have the sprockets pulled off and have the stock on pressed back on or what, could i just buy the rest of the timing chain set for the one thats on the motor now? If so how would the oil pump even go on it??

Just buy a puller to pull that off.

what kind of puller would i need? I have a couple 3 jaw pullers

3 jaw should work if you can get it setup correctly. GM has a special tool which is basically a half plate with half circle cutout that slips behind it and has 2 bolts to pull it off.

The sleeve is to drive the oil pump, It pretty easy to get off. I use a sharp screwdriver and drive it between the cam sprocket and the oil pump drive sleeve,and it pops right off.But you can use a puller and pull the sprocket and sleeve at the same time if you need both

3 jaw with some grider modifications to it got it right off.

i had better success with a 3 jar puller converted over to 2 jaw. some pullers can be either or. it was like the 4 inch size.
