Talk to Tom at Speed Inc. They do excellent work and can build whatever you need.

Ill second that nut swinging Allan Futral goes above and beyond ANY shop I have dealt with when it comes to making the customer happy. I have dealt with halfassed performance shops for years and Im glad I FINALLY found one who stands behind their work and gives you what they promised. Ill be building a stroker motor soon and Ill be sticking with FMS. My lil 346 does quite well for itself

BTW, LPE does great work, but for the price, you are lacking ALOT of performance capability.

I would say JPR or Futral, I have heard nothing but good things about both.

All of the main tuners mentioned here are a good choice and i would talk to them all and see who you get the best feel and customer service from and also take location of the shop from where you live into strong consideration also.

BEST OF LUCK!

For the record, I believe the MTI sleeve change is to make the strokers more cost effective, not because the original stroker sleeve process is inferior. They are still building and selling stroker motors like everyone else as well as backing up their products. I'm sorry, there's just too much proof in the pudding at MTI.

My lil 346 is doin' Ok too.

I guess I never gave Allan enough credit for that at the time, but he did the same thing for me. He bought a ticket, flew 8 hours away from his family just to dyno tune my car and go home that evening. All to save me from trailering my car to his place.

I personally like sticking with the "smaller scale" shops like FMS because of that type of customer service.

It seems JPR is right up there as well and its good to see people do actually care about the comsumer and will go out of their way to make us happy

If my motor were being built somewhere it'd be built at Futral.

I would suggest going with a builder/tuner with a proven track record of building a fast and reliable 427 (or 422, 436 etc.), most of those mentioned above do have that so you can't go wrong with most of them.
I think Cartek has the quickest NA Corvette running right now (10.40@131+), it's a 427 LS1 full weight street driven C5 with an A4.

Good luck with whoever you choose.

It's alot of money and you only do it once.

I would be more than happy to put together a custom quote for you. I know distance is a factor but I can assist you with either an open or enclosed transport. I can also ship you the engine complete and ready to drop in if you choose that route.

You can e-mail me at JaysonMTI@aol.com and I'll be glad to help you anyway I can.

We have used the Darton sleeve blocks in our motors a couple of times. It is most certantly the way to go in building a high HP 427. There are many shops out there that can acomplish what you want. Talk to them all and chose one you feel comfortable with, service, performance and patients are key. HAve fun and enjoy your new motor.

Default some thoughts

Ive done the engine thing here recently, and I have a few ideas about what to think about when you want to have a new 427 put in your car;

1. Installing it yourself? If not, its definitely worth it to have the actual engine builder install it. That way you drop off your car and pick up a car with a 427 in it. One person who cant point the finger at anyone else... If you look at the price of a 427 installed (~12-14,000 if you have other things sorted), the price of a transport to the right shop and back is worth it.

2. There are four options that *I* would feel totally comfortable dropping my car off at. Ive been around this LS1 stuff since being surprised that MTI ran an 11 with a heads/cam LS1. Ive dealt with most vendors many times. I know exactly where I would go for just about any product for the LS1 and I know I would have no problems.

a) MTI. Their Z07 was the first and they have more experience than anyone out there. Great install skills and good pricing. MTI has consistently gone out of their way to make my car better, often at their own expense. I went to MTI for my 387. I'd never be worried about results, power-wise, with an MTI motor.

b) JPR. At some point, you have to wake up and realize that theres alot of extremely happy JPR customers out there. The story is almost universally the same: "Joe didnt stop till my car was perfect.". He is known for better than average pricing as well. Not as much experience with the big motors as others, though.

c) Futral. Futral seems to get more power out of strange custom motors than anyone. For a cost-effective solid roller, installed, Futral and Thunder Racing are the only games in town. Their cars compete extremely well at the strip. I dont know if daily driver convenience and reliability are their "game", but if its na odd, one-off motor, they are the guys.

d) LPE. Kings of the streetable daly driver monster. Always a little down on power from equivilent packages from the above vendors, but they dont make cars that you couldnt have your grandmother drive to the opposite coast. Most LPE customers just upgrade to fancier packages for more power while remaining streetable. Their 427 might not make quite as much power at an MTI Z07 car, but LPE customers usually have enough money ot get the twin turbos on the 427 so that they dont feel small. The right vendor if you are a millionaire, want it perfect, and dont want issues like "the clutch actuation point moved 2 inches when you put that big motor in." While we here on LS1tech all buy alot of single parts from Thunder Racing and try and build our own pile, we all dream of just dropping the car off at LPE.

Hope that helps... Ive never had a regret with my MTI 387. (other than not doing the 427).

Also, do TALK to people with packages from different shops. They can tell you more of the real world behavior of their setup than the shop can. A shop will most always have some bias toward promoting their product so consider talking to some of their customers about their setup from "X" company.

Why so they can rip someone off?

I'd stay with a trusted and established builder, like MTI or any of the LS1Tech sponsors, not some bums that don't know crap about LS1's or engines in general.
