Big bore 393ci
I will stay hydraulic for what I want to do, + racing could be 1 season (who knows) and I want the option of being able to use that motor on street if it so requires later on down the road.
For the time being (as Eric K. mentionned) I want to make this the most budget minded/friendly as possible (while putting $$ where it counts most to make it work its best).
Alltogether, this car will cost me around 15>17K $ (lots of custom fabrication in my tiny cubical
), This is not counting the 1500$ I spent on that 00 Z28 (blown motor, collecting dust for 2 years in some guys back yard). Basically a roller. For exemple I'm leaning toward a Neal Chance converter ($ well spent). Tranny will be a Reverse TH 400 with LS pattern bellhousing (no Trans Brake). Custom 3.5 inch drive shaft.
Differential is a custom Ford 8.8 with 3.55 gears or 3.70 (I'll decide that when I spec the cam).
Heads will only get a valve job and some bowl work with .003 cleaning (for Cometic).

But reliability sucks and often then cannot go through a full round to the finals.
in 06/07 I was crowned Champion, not for being the quickest but because I was the most consistant. Finished in finals in all but 1 race out of 8
I was running low 10s
and some of the quickest shortimes and RTs. Last edited by PREDATOR-Z; Jun 23, 2009 at 01:08 AM.

But being the anarchist that I am, I am contemplating doing the following:
LSX block (decked .015, 9.240)
4.155 bore
6.125 callies rods
3.622 nitrated crank
Wiseco pistons (1cc reliefs)
LS7 heads
LS7 intake
Custom cam
Target>7200 rpm with 200>250 shot N2O (dual stage)
Shooting for 700>750rwhp
393cid/6.44 L
Has anyone done something similar, what were your results?
What do you think? (besides that I'm nuts, obviously)
Mark
And look how big the jump in power they make
Throwing bore at the 3.62 stroke makes awesome power increases. Someday i plan on having my LS1 block re-sleeved to 4.125" and keeping the stock crank and maybe hitting it with my D1SC kit
Best of luck on your new setup. BTW, thx again for the killer 218/224 .604/.609 113lsa +1 cam u spec'd out for me awhile back.Den

Yeah, I had a beef with that for years, my reasoning is how's come a Manual tranny car can clutch dump at 6+K rpm and autos cannot have a transbrake?
I had a huge argument and protested (boycoted) 1 race because they would not allow parachute for 9.99 or less and I was saying safety first, records later, or safety loops for drive shaft (it is not untill a car vaulted in the air that they enforced that one).
Much politics here, son of a powerful family will get away with things, inspector is cousin of brother in law etc...
One time there was one guy running with no gas cap. I refused to race against him (finaly he borrowed one from another stang.)
anyways, what to do... it is the only track in my area

Good luck on racing in that class, sounds like it would be really fun aside from the safety factors.
on it. That much power is 427cid territory. Please tell me who makes a 540rwhp 383cid LS1 cause i'd buy one in a heart beat. Most 383's i've been around make 475rwhp or alittle higher, but never seen one that made 540 hp. And i haven't seen too many 383 LS1's make it out of the 11's unless the car is a stripped out race car.
build a 400cid which pontiac used to put in the TransAm back in the day. And if someone made a 3.75 crank and install it in a 4.125" bore block that would make a 400cid motor.
But i wouldn't complain with a 427 though

Even with a stock crank, I'd still go with the 4.185 bore. Then your options for heads are a TON better, and will work alot better with the high rpm setup you'll have.

540 rwhp out of a 383 isn't to shabby
