Default Does anyone make a lightweight spring keeper?

We have lightweight springs and Ti retainers, but are stuck using the heavy stock keepers. Does anyone know of a lighter set of keepers? Nascar has Ti keepers for there engines, but I don't know what degree the stock (or comp Ti) keepers are cut at.

The stock keepers are 7 degree and weigh 2.5 grams. Comp Cams 623-16 are 7 degree and weigh 3.2 grams. I don't know of any titanium bead lock 7 degree keepers.

Unless you are going to be breaking your engine down after each outing to check the titanium keepers I would stay the hell away from the them. Great if you have the budget not so if your a garage mechanic.

Why is that? They have Ti retainers which are zero maintenance correct?

If you know anything about Ti it is a very brittle metal and one wrong thing can destroy it. The affect of heating and cooling unlike regular heated and liquid nitrogen hardened metal keepers make it more brittle again you'll do what you want.

You'd be wise to spend your $ elsewhere in this case. If you have the opportunity to check the mass of a few different types/styles/sizes of lock, I'd bet you'd never refer to the stockers as "heavy" again.

Not really, next time you have the springs out check the underside of the retainers. I think you will see wear, much more so than steel retainers. These are a watch and maintenance item, not a long life item like stock hardened steel retainers.
