What cam to use with stock ls1?
I'm swapping in a LS1 in my monte carlo. 3.73 w/ th350 3300 stall.
What would you suggest? I was thinking a ms3.
You get a good head/cam combo with new springs, even if you use your own heads, which I would not suggest but if you do get new springs. You are going ot need new head bolts first and biggest mistake made by many.
You do full exhaust and intake you take a look at the tranny and see if it needs up grades (stall for automatics) and the diff/gears.
You then get a good tune and there you have it the right way to do a cam swap.
Any other way and you will pay a lot more in the long run.

I was hesitant to explain the whole situation, but here it goes:
I have this stock ls1 that i'm going to swap into my 87 monte. I am also building up another ls1 for performance. So far, i have a new ls6 block, new crank, and callies compstar 6.125 H beam rods. At first i was just going to build a stout motor and swap everything in at one time. However, that would take waiting for paychecks to fund the process because i need to buy a whole bunch of parts to "do it right the first time".
I decided to slap together the stock ls1 since it is complete and get everything i need to get my monte running with an ls1 setup (motor mounts, bigstuff3, front accessories, and so on).
Once i get my car running with an ls engine, i will finish the "stout ls engine" and change it out with the stock ls engine.
Since i am reassembling the stock ls engine, i was just wondering if there was a cam that i could put in just to get some rump.
I know its not the right way, but it's what i wanted. That's why i was asking if there is a cam that some people might recommend.
