Trex Cam question

Default Trex Cam question

I am looking into buying a trex cam. and everyone says they have valve clearance issues, afte taking the heads off my buddies car we found his valves were kissing the pistons a lil. he has the basic trex with 110lsa..

My question is, if you had a custom grind trex with 111lsa or 112 would that help with valve clearance??

I'm not sure about the cam but I know you could get ur pistons fly cuted

i dont believe the LSA would make a difference its more the Duration/Lift setup on that cam, which is through the room as far as duration for a 346. That cam puts down some serious times/numbers though. Looking back on it i should have gone TREX v.3 not my MS4

thats what i thoght. but doesnt the ms4 have more lift and dur. than trex?? and the trex has the worst PVC

Trex has more duration but less lift.

thats going to depend on the person. with my baby cam i ran 12.1 the first run on the set up. i cannot handle a cam that big. do you dd your car?

Don't get me wrong, baby and mid sized cams get the job done well
But from the moment I heard a Trex car and saw what kind of power they were making I knew I had to have this cam.

As for the heads, I believe they are 68cc, they are not milled and I did not flycut the pistons

I don't drive it daily, if your wanting a cam for a daily driver, this is prob not the type of cam your looking for, any big cam can be tuned to drive excellent though. I would suggest something in the 228-230's range for a daily.

i really would buy the trex if i wouldnt have to be worried about the PVC..i love the power they make and they sound bad *** lol. idk i will thnk about it

I completely disagree with this statement. I have dyno tested these two camshafts side by side on the engine dyno. If you'd like your welcome to come down & compare the two side by side on my engine dyno.

not to thread hijack.... but will my -4cc valve reliefs be enough for a milled 36 thousandths 243 head and a .040 head gasket with my MS4 cam? obviously ill be doing a clearance check when i assemble. But im bring my heads to the machine shop tonight and wondering if i can go that low. thanks

With my stock 243 heads, my 242/248 (cam is same duration as the Trex with more lift) 111 lsa doesn't have issues. Just my quick .02.

LSA DOES reflect PtV clearance as its a relation of valve overlap.

Without any proof to back up my claim, I would say it would help.

How much it will help I have no idea.

Do they make that cam on a 112, or is it a special order type of deal.

Reason I ask is if they engineered that monster on a 110, and you change it to a 112 that throws the whole powerband off.

If it was me man, I would flycut the pistons and do it right. Someone makes a tool to cut the pistons in the motor using the valve guide. I just saw some pics last week I think of someone using it in a vette I think.
