Default ANOTHER what is this tick/knock!!!! With Video!

Ok guys i have a tick/knock and oil pressure problem.... All my mods are in my sig.

Cold idle- 40 psi
Hot idle- 15-20 psi
WOT- 60psi
Oil pressure instantly jumps when throttle is touched.


I did a cam swap months ago (2000 miles running Mobile 1 10w-30 Syn)... well right after the cam swap the oil pressure seemed low at idle and only ticked a little when hot at idle.... so i just never let it idle long. I did have problems getting the pickup tube back in so i think its a pinched O-ring causing this oil pressure problem.

well i recently installed an STS turbo (500 miles ago running nappa 15w-40 syn).... well my tick got louder and oil pressure dropped from 20 psi idle to 15psi idle after the tubo install.. so i think the turbo is causing the oil to get even hotter.

Well im tired of the tick and want to get it taken care of. It sounds TO ME like the rockers are just chattering because they arent properly lubed. The noise goes away when the throttle is held for a few seconds even at idle then the pressure will drop down again after a few seconds and the ticking starts again!

what do you think it is? O-ring, rockers,lifters, ect...

I also heard a faint sound 1 time since the came swap... It almost sounded like my double roller timing chain rubbed against something. maybee it was just and exhaust rattle or something. Ive just been EXTREMELY parinoid after the turbo install. Im afraid this happened cuz im running the same timing chain and pump! --> https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...learances.html

Timing cover is coming off reguardless! But want some opinions... just praying its not a bearing or something!

Sounds like a lifter to me. I would be concerned that my pump doesn't flow enough if I was getting 15psi at idle, you have to feed that turbo too right? I don't know what the oiling setup is for the STS kits. For reference, even at high oil temps like 230+ my ported melling makes 40psi at idle, 50psi in normal temp range idle.

ya the pump also feeds the turbo...

i got curious about the pump i pulled out and the one i pulled out is a ported ls6 pump also PN# 12556436! LMAO!

So im putting the one that was in there back into it... because i know it works. if this doesnt fix it i dont know what it is. just hope i havent done much damage to the motor with the low idle oil pressure.

I have a thread on here trying to find the original owner of my car to ask them if its even the original motor and what they did with it... because my ta is a 98 but it has 241 heads and now i found the oil pump that was from 2000 and newer. I think the motor might be a 2000 or newer....

Yeah that is pretty interesting. Let us know what you find. But as far as your noise, I'm still going with a lifter.

Well found out i pinched the O-ring on the pickup tube.... now all i have is just the horrid valvetrain noise the ls1 gets with a high lift cam... so that is relieving just glad it wasn't a bearing or something!

My noise sounds around that to, if you have ls7 lifters then that would be all it is. My car and alot of cars ive seen run with ls7 lifters are loud like that.
