Ls6 Head Limitation's

Are Stock ls6 heads limited on performance? I'm wondering can i go in the 10's with this stock head's and aftermarket cam. Im going to run 3.73 gears, 125 wet shot, and LT headers ,ory and Lid. With a good tune. What cam works great with these heads I want to make good hp on motor but really go in the numbers with nitrous. If I can run 10.90's or better im good. O yea I will be running a 3600 stall.

gotta match you heads to a cam. if you go ls6 heads, get an ls6 cam, otherwise get some aftermarket ones and a cam that matches what it flows

Uhhh.... what?

You can get a cam other than an LS6 to match just fine with stock 243 cast heads...

I hope I misunderstood your post.

good springs and a valve job +a good nos tune will do it .950 psi bottle pressure +enough fuel pressure and pull out 6* timing, and short shift 500rpm below peak na hp .

Yeah don't listen to suzookiegsxr. You can use other cams besides the LS6 cam with those heads and have great results. You should look into the MS3 cam for good numbers all motor that really wakes up with the juice.

I would just change the springs they are rated to a 575 lift if I am right and a good cam will be around 600 even for nitrous so that I would change. If you want to port and polish them it will help with the nitrous if it was a blower or turbo then no need for it.

Im on a budget it will just be a lil sleeper. MS3 ive heard some good things about this cam? Anybody got any Dyno or 1/4 mile #'s

Im going to let the car shift it self. So will I need to let the tuner set the shift points? Or are you saying I will have to shift it myself on NOS.

people have gone bottom 10's regularly and high 9s ocassionally on stock unported LS1 heads and nitrous.

LS6 castings have major potential to be worked over later on. TEA has gotten 320cfm from LS6 castings

What hes saying is if/when you get the car on a dyno look at you peak RWPH to HP/TQ and shit 500 RPMS below your peak. The tuner will set the shift point, never shift an auto by yourself. The computer can do it a lot better

Thanks StreetSilverado

I just left mine in Drive. Either way it doesn't matter. When your at WOT the car won't shift into over drive. Some people may debate this, but really when racing you can leave it in "D" or "3".

I have those heads plus an MS4 cam. Cant tell you any numbers because I dont want to get a tune until I'm done with a few more mods. I can say that it is fast as hell and sounds great!

You leave your car in 3 depending on how many clutch packs you have. I am running an RPM Stage II 4L60E/PCT 3400 stall set up and I have 2 extra clutch packs for 3rd specifically for 1/4 runs if not then you want to put her on drive. Whats the tranny matted to your 3600 stall?

HitmanLS1 Jul 10, 2009 01:31 PM

Na its actually a 3500 TCI super street fighter? I have a stock trans.

black01_WS6 Jul 10, 2009 03:15 PM

there are guys running ls6 heads on 408ci engines so I think you will be fine. Especially if you get them worked over.

If you get a cam make sure you get- valvesprings, pushrods, oil pump, timing chain. good idea to change out fuel filter, and put in new spark plugs escpecially if you are going to spray. Tr6's would a good choice.

How is your fuel system- a racetronics kit and injectors is almost the minimum you need.

10 bolt or aftermarket rear- if stock start saving for a new one.

tranny- you said stock- it will break with the power you are thinking so start saving for a new one

Stock suspension- it is going to be hard to get the power to the ground.

Good luck
