How does a rebuild usually cost?
How does a rebuild usually cost? So i was doing a head sway on my 02 ta and i got the heads off yesterday and last night it rained its *** off i didnt think to much of it, it only lasted for about an hour and i had my block slead with lots of rags, tape, and the old gaskets on top and my cylinders coated in wd40. But to my surprise when i went to work on it this morning on the passenger side where the lifters are there was water!
so i tryed it off the best i could do and cleaned it the best i could but im worried it got in the motor there was a little pool in there and im worried my bearings are going to rust out.
So im figureing i will have to get the engine rebuilt and i was looking at rotating assemblies from texas speed and i was also looking at short blocks but im only going to have $4000 maybe a little more for parts and labor and just wondering what kind of money some of you guys spent on rebuilds. Im not looking for all out power i dont plan on ever spraying more them 150 shot on the motor and my plans for the furture are just a nice haed/cam only looking for 450rwhp in the future so i dont need strokers or anything like that.
Another qeustion i had was what parts would you replace in a rebuild? Im figure beside the bearings and bottem end the timing chain, pushrods, and oil pump. Could i use the stock lifters or should i just get ls7 lifters? Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance.

I drained the oil im just worried that the bearings will start to rust i called a guy that owns a ls1 shop and he told me that if water did get in it could shortin the engine life drasticaly thats why i want to look into a rebuild in the future
i would invest in a shortbolck instead of a rebuild. a shop local to me told me it would cost around 5k to do a complete 383. I would rather spend a little more and get an LS2 414 shortblock and upgrade the heads and all as I save the money.
You don't need a new motor. Drain the oil and get as much water out as you can. Get it back together, run it, change oil, run it, change oil till it comes out clean, you'll be fine.

Most of your internals should be saturated with oil, so the water should just bead up. So does as most of the guys say drain it, put oil in it turn it over by hand, change oil again. Run it for about 500 miles change it again. If you have any more doubt then use a good quality additive like Z-Max or something like that.
