Yes, but a stock crank will handle quite a bit. Just depends on how much you will throw at it.

what can one expect to pay for rods pistons using the stock crank...

basically how much for a nice built bottom end with the stock crank total?

Just depends on what you can do yourself. When you change the rods/pistons, you have to have the assembly rebalanced. This will cost prolly $200-$300 depending on your machine shop. Mine needed $120 in Mallory to get it balanced right.

If the block requires just a hone, and you get the internals balanced, then get a good deal on the other parts, you can do it for $1600-$1800 assembling it yourself.

Lunati has a stock forged crank but it costs pretty much the same as a stroker crank so you can do a 382 or 395 for the same price.

Eagle has forged crank due out in two weeks, but many will be concerned about quality and perhaps balancing issues...I'd go that route if I hadnt hardened mine already. Affordable. Lunati and Calaies have them from 1500-2k, while eagle will be around 1k or less...do you trust it is the question...their rods are fine.
