Chrome Plating an Iron Block?

I was talking to a guy a work and he said back home in Arizona, he knew of people that had their Iron blocks chrome plated and then had the machine work done.

Is this possible? Even if it is, wouldn't it flake off on the inside over time?

It would be pretty cool to chrome a 6.0L block, talk about some BLING!!!

I don't see why you "couldn't"........you would have to have all the surfaces machined afterwards though (which would cost you almost as much as buying a re-sleeved aluminum block)

then again I am not reall big on bling factor.

I'm sure it can be done. I've got (no ****) a 24 carat gold plated 355 for my Anglia. It was gonna be a show car, but I yanked the engine for another since I actually want to drive it. Now the 24 carat motor is on a stand for show.

Thats nuts roadrunner. Gold is softer than chrome isn't it? I dont see a reason why it wouldnt work.

I think Street and Performance or Stainless Steel works or maybe both sell an anti-bluing polish to help keep the shine.

If you do chrome the block I'd make sure your cooling system is top-notch due to the heat retention the plating will add. ME thinks it'd be a waste if the block is going into anything other than a open bay roadster. You'd hardly see it in a F-body or C5

What about having the motor done up with that shiny ceramic coating? That wouldnt blue on ya. Of course wouldn't that hold in even more heat than the chrome?
