Default How to install crank timing gear?

How do you guys remove and install the timing gear on the crank? do you just pound it on till it bottoms out? What about removal.

I am installing an ls2 chain and was recommended to replace both gears as well.

Did you try using the 3 jaw balancer remover tool? IIR just turn the old gear end for end to drive new one on.

Or you could see if the local auto zone/advance has a set you could borrow.

Voda is right. Use a jaw type puller to get the old one off. Use the old one to drive the new one on. Hitting the old one with the hammer.
