I've heard that 5.3s make about 30-40 rwhp less than LS1s with the same cams, heads, exhausts, compression ratio, etc. Free bump as I'd also like to confirm this...

look over on performance trucks....i have a mild h/c 5.3 in my car...never had it on a dyno though....ms3 is a lot of cam for the 5.3 id look into some arp or katech rod bolts...

the above comment on 30-40 rwhp less is not true...more like 20-25 if that.....ive seen cam only trucks with tiny cams 220s or less put 350 to the tire...theres a thread somewhere with a 5.3 in a trans am with headers and an ls6 cam that made 327rwhp....just search around

Don't run anything of a 224 cam in a 5.3...

I agree MS3 is to big for that engine. Bigger isn't always better.

make for a response motor
i would keep cam under 220 duration for throttle response and drivabilty
i would recommend the LPE GT11 cam, that is a very responsive cam in a 5.3 and will be evn better with the available heads and intake.

only reason i asked is i have the ms3 out of my LS1 that snapped a rod bolt. i have found tons of 5.3's for cheap where i lived and was thinking about swaping it into the TA just to get it back on the road . and had already planned on new rod main bearings and Katech rod bolts while i was right there anyways. i just want a cheap motor to spray a 175 shot on because it not a DD. if it last for awhile of street driving and a couple of sprays thats good enough for me.
