oil consumption
Quick answer: stock low tension oil rings cause blowby as well as "not so great" PCV system sucking oil into intake...
Longer answer: Once you change things (headers, cam, etc..) the usual scavanging effect from the crankcase changes. If you see smoke coming out your exhaust at WOT then the low tension rings are not "tight" enough to stop oil from going to the low pressure zone in the cylinders... A vacuum pump or tighter rings would help that problem.
The best you can do for PCV system is go with an LS6 valley cover AND a catch can. I have this setup, and even with an LS6 valley cover, I catch a fair amount of oil in the catch can.
I use about 1 quart ever 1000 miles. I drive like an idiot often (lots of high rpm moments), and this definitely adds to the consumption problem. I am not ripping my engine apart just yet to replace rings, the car runs fantastic. I'll wait till something blows up first
I just know I need to add about 3 quarts between every oil change... Not a big deal to me...
Good luck!
