Default Cam'ing for midrange throttle response?

Looking for experienced feedback and advice on a cam. I have a stock 2004 LS6 engine with headers, Vararam ram air intake and good tune. Peak hp of around 440 is satisfactory. I'd like to drop a cam in that will produce some killer midrange throttle response ( say roughly 3000 to 5500 RPM's) without dropping any peak horsepower, or maybe gaining a few (think area under the curve). My educated guess is that tightening up the LSA and adding a few degrees of duration would be the ticket for this. Maybe something like a 210/210 on a 112 LSA. I want a good idle (no real chop but a little thump is ok) and don't want to take a significant hit on fuel mileage (20k a year daily driver). Just want the most gain where I drive 95% of the time if I'm not on cruise control: Part throttle in the midrange.
Is there a better way to get bulked up throttle response in the midrange? Or maybe this is the best approach? I'm all ears Any input here from people with firsthand experience would be very much appreciated. I know it's a kind of unusual criteria set but I ain't dyno racing. Thanks, Michael

Sounds like you need to look into the 224 and 226 duration camshafts...more power, good idle, decent mileage with a good tune.

I had excellent results with my T1 (221/221 .558/.558-112). Made 399/395 to the wheels and was amazing in the mid RPM's.

224/224 .581/.581 114 lsa. Say no more than a 3k-3600k stall if your an auto and 3.73's if your an M6. Of course 3.73's and a stall in an auto will really make use of all the cams power and give you killer tire roasting mid-range.

Thanks for the input! The cam specs you dudes are mentioning would no doubt rock in the midrange. Kind of iffy about whether they would offer the level of refinement I'm looking for. I'll be running a GM Trailblazer converter which stalls roughly 300 RPM's higher than the stock C5 converter. That ain't changing.
With the help on here and a lot of research I'm strongly leaning toward something around 212-216 on a 113 LSA. Should have a reasonably smooth idle and not ding the fuel economy much. Seems like if you get up around 220 on a 112 you're going to have a somewhat choppy idle which is a deal breaker. No doubt a 220'ish cam on a 112 or 113 would be a hoot though Just think it would be a little too much for my geezerish tastes nowadays.

You should look into a 1 1/2 primary LT header. My car came with those from Hedman (called the torquestep I believe). They step to 1 3/4. Plus they are pretty cheap too. My car had insane midrange power and torque. I switched to an all 1 3/4 header and lost a lot of midrange power. Doesnt feel as ballsy down low as before.
