what is the advantage or disadvantage to a reverse split cam?

Josh brings up some good points - .580-.590 lift is really going to be enough for most people. There are plenty of cams making great power with this range of lift - Thunder, etc. You are much better off trying to squeeze some in more duration than more lift all other things being equal.

Of course I really can't say to much as I am throwing a big stick in my ride now. I've had the F1, the TSP 231/237 and now I'm probably going with something along the lines of the TR 236.

BTW - MTI 427 - I ran the TSP 231/237 with some very mildly ported LS6 heads and made 420 rwhp through a 9''. I think that cam and the LS6 heads would be a great combo - just make sure to go with the dual springs just for peace of mind.

Thanks for the heads up and info. How many miles did you put on with the 231 TSP cam and were you running the crane dual srpings. Did you ever break a spring and what springs did you run.

To Clarify:

Stock Cam:
Dyno: 321 rwhp/ 335rwtq
Mods: Longtubes, 2.5" True Duals, Minor Boltons, No Pulley, No Tuning, No LS6 Intake, No Ported TB

Previous Cam:
RPM Stage 2- 232/236 .571/.577 112
Dyno: 381 rwhp/354 rwtq
Mods: Same as above at the time of dyno, still no tuning

New Cam
My custom specs
234/230 .598/.591 112+2
Dyno: 354 rwhp/ 347 rwtq (right around there, I dont remember the exact numbers)
Mods: Same as above at the time of the dyno, still no tuning

If i am not mistaken, RUQWIKR has the fastest head cam car out there..His cam specs.....219-229 and around the 550 lift range...So i am not buying into the bigger is better theory.. Also Raug with his C1 and C2 ran well into the tens 10.8 C1 10.66 C2..And also Jantzer ran a 224 535 lift MMS cam into the 10.8 range..

Now some poeple might come back as saying lightweight race cars blah blah blah, but dont you think there are others out there just as light or lighter with the big cams? No flames intended just my thoughts..

those are some pretty good numbers with fairly small cams but most people that install those usually run in the 12s and 11s. this tells me that there is something they are not saying. every car will have the same effects with the same changes. also i wonder what those cars will run with bigger cams. i bet they will even go faster.

I had about 4-5K miles on the TSP cam when I decided to change setups (sold everything with the intent on going with a new solid roller motor - but alas plans change and now I'm just redoing the heads/cam). Anyway, I used the comp 987 springs with great results. No valve float and no breaks. Granted I did not run them that long - but still no problems. Also, my heads were 01 stock valves so with your lighterweight valves, titanium retianers, etc. you'll really have a nice rev happy set of heads

offaxis, I wish that I had your luck with HP, my TR 227/224 and everything else is only putting down 370 RWHP. I am disappointed, but believe my JPR heads are the blame!
Here in Nevada, we have strict emissions, but with the 1996-newer computer emissions testing, it is cam friendly. As long as youre tuned and have no more than 2 codes or incompletes, you pass. Guys are passing with major cams in them.

Phil, pretty much every car in that list is a gutted tin can, therefor it's easier to pop off better #'s with smaller camshafts. Those smaller cams wouldn't be record holders if they weighed more than 30-3200 lbs...Not knocking those guys, they have put a LOT of time and R&D into their setups, but they are LIGHT so it's not really apples to apples when comparing those cars to the rest of the general LS1 population. JMO...

Yes i agree with what you are saying also..But i know for a fact there are other BIG h/c cars out there with the same weight that arent going as fast. Until i see it worthwhile to go bigger i will stay with my baby B1..BTW...which FMS cam do you have? F4? I kind of like that one..
