HotCam Question Hey guys,
Im looking at a mild cam for my daily driver (01 A4 TA),
What do you guys think about the Hotcam for me?
Does this cam require a stall converter???

A stall converter should be the first mod you do regardless of what cam you get. Alot of guys here bash the Hotcam, but I like it. It's cheap, makes great midrange power (good for streetraces) and sounds badass. Plus the lower lift is easier on springs (reliable). You will need to have tuning done with an A4. I will probably soon have another LS1 TA for a daily driver, and plan to run a hotcam and some mild heads.
I know of a car the went 11.9's @ 113 in an A4 Hotcam car. It is not a favored cam on the board, but I have been happy with mine in my 6-speed. It depends on what your goals are, and what makes you happy.
It's cheap, it makes decent power and it sounds great at idle. I love mine and I'm now determined to get 400hp outta it w/ stock heads. Reliablity is a good factor too, but you will need tuning w/ an auto and a new convertor is always a good idea.
Good luck, do some research, if you are looking for a "mild" cam, the Hotcam is not for you, IMO. It will drive and act like a bigger cam, yet won't (usually) match the power of other, milder cams. I would look into a 224/224 or something like that, it has proven to be one of the most versatile LS1 cams, and is an overall excellent cam. If you want real mild or stealthy, look into the 224/224 114 or the MTI "Stealth" cam, or TR's "Old man cam".
As far as a torque convertor, you will notice more of a gain with a convertor than you will with a cam.

The hotcam will need tunning with an A4. Its not going to have the best street manners for a cam its size.You have to think into the future where you want your power level to be next summer, next winter and so on. If you plan on a heads and cam car i would go whith a TR224. If you wand good street manners with good power and are sticking with with stock heads i would think about the hotcam TR220 or a B1 or T1. Thats the route i took. I dont have ANY money but for my birthday and Christmas i get a $500 mod. Last year converter this year cam and a basic tune or a used HPP3 .Next year headers.

I have the Hotcam In my 02 SS, I drilled the TB hole and it behaves nicely( see sig) I like it and will be seeing how it responds to a 100 shot wet kit after christmas. It traps 114-115's on f1's, haven't tried it with the Nittos yet. Might go bigger later on. I got my kit for 200 dollars,so it was a no brainer.

i agree 100%. 
.i mean if your gonna have to tune you might as well get a better cam anyway. if you dont want to tune look into the 02+ ls6 cam.

No sirreeeee Bob, you'll hear nothing from me about this turd of a...uhhm...I mean, this fine little budget cam who's specs were so cleverly copied straight from the pages of GM's LT1 Hotcam. Nope, not going to do it this time. Why, I couldn't even be enticed to debate the qualities of the Notcam even if it were somehow absurdly campared to that stellar epitome of camshaft technology that we've all grown to love or fear...yes, that great sequoia grown from the seed of my own vision...the one, the only, the ever venerable...Stealth Cam! LOL! 
I'm just kidding ya'll so don't get your panties in a wad. It makes good power for the $$$ and there's nothing wrong with that.

Colonel, that was a good read. Without a doubt it is not the best cam out there, or on the cusp of LS1 developement, but I got the kit for $300. That is less than most pay for just a cam. My car went 110.26 on a 97+ day at 600 ft of elevation, with a weak clutch on a 2.21 60 ft. It dynoed 381/373 which ain't bad for a wittle cam. I think there are a couple of X1 and TR 224 cars in the same bracket, but they are much better cams.

I have one and would not recommend it to anyone with an A-4 as a daily driver you can go bigger and better with less drivability issues. In my car it kicks *** and sounds how should I put it rowdy.

Sometimes I wish I had gotten the Hotcam or Z06 cam instead of the one in my Sig.
By the way, you can adjust the idle on an A4 by turning the set screw instead of drilling the throttle blade. Tuning also helps.
