Up side down cam swap?

Up side down cam swap?
So I pulled the entire engine to do the cam swap. I had to do an oil pan, front main, rear main, and rear cover gaskets so it was just easier. Now for the cam swap...since I have the engine out should I just flip it upside down when I go to pull the cam out?? I don`t have the JRP lifter tool and flipping the engine seems like a better alternative to dowel rods. Is there anything I`m missing?

I would be concerned about the lifters either coming partially out and not returning properly or potentially turning in the plastic retainers. I know the retainers are designed to prevent them from turning, but again they are plastic. I don't know how much space there is between the head surface and the lifters compared to their height, but I would avoid it. Go buy some wooden dowels for about $3 and do it the correct way.

That is what I was thinking. I couldn`t imagine there being a problem doing it upside down. Maybe oil running to the top end, but I was going to already have the valvecovers, pan, and basically the rest of the covers off too so that wasn`t going to be an issue. I generally like to avoid getting wood near a motor, lint from rags is bad enough but wood debris in a motor could not be good. Now I just have to decide how I am going to align the front and rear covers and oil pan.
I think I`m going to end up putting the front and rear covers back on and then the pan.
