bolting down LS1 heads torque/bolt pattern? Q
bolting down LS1 heads torque/bolt pattern? Q I'm going to be doing a cam swap over winter and I figured it would be a good time to do the head gaskets since everything is already going to be ripped apart.
So my question is other than the torque specs listed on ls1how, is there a proper way to bolt down the heads once you go to put them back on. Also do I have to have the mating surfaces machined since they are aluminum heads? Or can I just bolt them back on once I'm ready to?
See here is shbox's diagram for an LT1 car look at the picture and bolt pattern on the left. Is there anything like this for our LS1 cars?

I took my heads to the machine shop. They milled them flat and did a vavle job for about $150. They will surely be warped when you unbolt them. Its just a matter of how much. At least take them and have them checked.
Well maybe I'll leave the heads alone then and do TDC. I'm on a budget being in school and all. Plus I don't want to skimp out on other accessories like the LS6 oil pump. I rather throw the cash towards that sort of stuff. Do you think I'll be ok for a couple years?
