Default Anyone ever break a Comp 918 on a .590+ cam?

I can't remember when I have ever read about anyone breaking one of the 918's on a bigger cam. Just wondering if anyone has and what the circumstances were. I am considering the TSP cam with 918's.

Why should I go with 918's instead of a double spring? Do the double springs have too much pressure or something? Bad on the lifters or something? Just curious as to why people run 918s instead of doubles.

The cam specs are pretty close to TSP 232/236 .595/.598 lsa 114 plus 4.. The engine saw 6800rpm shifts almost every weekend for a year. I recommend not taking a chance. Get dual springs. Yes I had the blue striped.

I've seen post's that has involed every spring breaking at one time or another. My friend recently broke a spring on a Cartek Head (dual spring)while driving down the highway.(only 5k miles on the spring)His ported LS6 head was trashed.
I ran 918's for a long time and most of my friends run them with no problems.I ran them for a while on my .598 lift Cam then recently switched to Cranes for a piece of mind that there spring is rated to .650.

FWIW, a friend of mine ran 918s with stock retainers to 7200rpm for an entire season of racing with a B1 cam, under 5 to 7 pounds of boost (procharger) and an occasional 100 shot in 2nd & 3rd. That was also with heavy 2.08 valves.

No floating evident on the dyno, and the stock bottom end let go with the springs still intact. Many mid 10 second runs at 125-130mph.

IMO they are a good spring. I am using a set from late '01 without any issues.

A B1 is like .558 if I can remember right? It should have been okay. I just see all these guys running near the limit for the 918s and not many break.

I guess i'd opt for the doubles if i'm going to run 590+

Yes, it's only .558, but when you consider the 7200rpm operation for a decent amount of time and the heavy 2.08 valves & stock retainers, it's just a good testiment to 918s being pretty good springs.

I have also known many people who run 918s with .581 lift setups and serious abuse while still holding up....

Ok then, let me ask this, what are the Disadvantages of running the dual springs? Why doesn't every cam package sell with dual springs no matter what the size?
