Low Oil Pressure
Well, if your not gettin metal in the oil, or any knocking sounds or anything i wouldnt worry about it. Ive noticed alot of the new trucks dipping down lower than 40, down to around 30 or so at idle with just 80k miles or so. Like i said the motor only needs like 7psi for every 1000 rpms to live and it be fine. My motor really has too much for my liking, its 60psi or so at idle and about 80psi at wot..
I bought my '98 Z28 with 97k miles on it and from the day I bought it the hot oil pressure has always been around 30 psi. When the hot pressure drops to 20, and the needle gets all jumpy, that's my indication that the oil and filter need changed. With fresh oil and a new filter it goes back to 30 psi at hot idle. I have a little over 130k miles on my car and I drive it pretty hard.
i recently did H/C on my car that has 169K and also put in a new mellings oil pump and my oil PSI is the same, i'll switch to a thicker oil and see what happens from there. i was told to run 20w50 with my high mileage but i'm not sure just yet
thats what happened to mine everything was fine before the oil change, i had valvoline 10w30 with a blue carquest oil filter. Oil pressure was light around 45psi when the engine was already warmed. After the oil change i used RESTORE with the same kind of oil filter and brand of filter. Thats when the oil pressure started dropping. I think the RESTORE additive had something to do. Might of eaten up the o ring or clogged up the pressure relief valve
