Default Cam selection for 5.3

This will be a cam only 5.3(at least initially) with bolt ons in a daily driven '96 Firebird body with th350(3k or 3500 stall) and 3.42s. And im sure a nitrous kit will find its way on there too. Any recommendations?

I have a 224/224, .581/.581, 112ls comp XER cam from Texas Speed in my truck. It made 307hp and 313torque to the wheels with 5.7 heads and 31 inch tires. It is fairly easy to tune and does good with a 3k stall. I've been happy with it. It would probably put down good numbers through a car.

Mid 220's are the sweet spot for the 5.3L.

Most people go with 224 and I wouldn't advise any higher than 228 on a DD.

I would suggest going with the TR224 camshaft. i would not go much bigger than that in the 5.3L. You will really start to sacrifice some of your bottom end torque with a cam bigger than that.
