I did all the valves, push roods, then I did the springs, pistons and rockers. I only did the springs, rockers and pistons because I replaced the cam when I had it apart. The valves only hit the pistons a little but to of the push roods were bent bad. I do not know how bad the springs and rockers were because I knew they were getting replaced after I saw that the valves hit the pistons. The other thing is that when I had the heads apart I could see where the valves where not seated on the heads all the way...I do not know if that was from the miss shift or from the miles on the car and all the passes on it. Let me know if you need any more info.
Ahh ok. yea I surely will do. I got ahold of some factory push rods so im going to replace all of the drivers side push rods with SLIGHTLY used ones. Guy has like a jug full of them and said I could have some. So im doing that tomorrow. Cross your fingers guys that I dont mess this up.
Is there anything I should know about taking the rocker arms off? Cuz I think I heard that theyre all on kind of a plate and they all come off at one time in one big piece? Next question, to take this "said plate" of rockers off, is it the bolts on the rockers that im unbolting to take them off?
All dumb questions I know, but this is my first time and I want to be sure im covering my A$$.
Not too hard. Just unbolt the rockers and remember which one went on which pedestal not crucial but just to be safe. When you have the rockers off check and maker sure all the needle bearing are still in the arms and it rotates freely. Then there is a plate that goes on the head under the rockers but it merely just sits in place so its ok. Pull all the pushrods out and roll them along a table to see if theyre bent slide new ones in and torque the rockers to 22 ft lbs and your golden.
Dan-
no, don't replace with chromemoly, or next time you may bend a valve insted of the much easer push rod. go back with stock, may save you ALOT of time and WORK.
