Default Cam Questions

Im looking at putting in this cam 226/230 .598 .600 113+4 and I have a few questions. I plan on using 7.245 pushrods.

What springs would you guys recommend me going with? Do you guys think I will need new valve seals, retainers, and spring seats?

I was planning on putting on an ls6 oil pump and ls2 timing chain. Should I go with a ported ls6 oil pump or will the stock ls6 work fine? Also when using the ls2 timing chain do I need to replace the gears too?

Im trying to do this as cheap as possible but still not skimp, meaning I dont want to spend unnecessary money if I dont have to.

Thanks

how many miles are on the engine?

that will tell you if you should swap the valve seals. if its not high..i wouldn't worry about it. retainers and seats can be reused if money is tight.

any of the dual springs on the market designed for .650" lift will work just fine, rather than cutting it close with something like c918s.

i was under the impression the ls2 timing set came with gears...why NOT replace them.

I would replace the gears/chain together. Yank has a great price on them. I wouldnt run 918s with that cam, I would pick a good set of duals. Sometimes with the duals they come with new seats bc they wont fit where the factory beehive once sat, plus the factory valve seal has the seat molded into it so by putting a new seat on with a dual spring, you would need new valve seals that dont have built in seats. They arent expensive though, about $15 a set.

What about either of these springs? PAC 1518 or a Comp 26918? They both show to be good for .650 lift

Well I can get an ls6 oil pump for like $60 and an ls2 Timing Chain for like $35 without the gears. If I get the gears its around $100 for the set.

If those are the endurance lobes from Engine Power Systems, then you want to run either the Comp 26918 or the PAC Racing 1518 beehive springs. These springs will outperform duals when combined with these unique lobes. They will be quieter and rev higher due to their low mass and beehive spring properties. You will not need to change valve seals, retainers or locks with the beehives (another plus).

I always say Comp 921s can handle anything you can throw at them. They are maintenance free and I am on my second H/C package on them. Now when it comes to the chain and oil pump do not go cheap. If you have to wait then wait but I would do the LS2 double roller Texas speed has them at a great price and a Melling pump 10295 or the 10296. I am running the 296 and I am very happy.
