Default Ideas on lq4 build

Kind of would like to throw out my idea for my 2001 lq4 build going into my truck.

My truck is a 99 silverado. I have a t56 out of a GTO, has the 2.97 first gear. My rear gears are 4.56's with a Eaton Posi. I have some slapper bars on the rear suspension. Truck has a 3/4 drop on it. I'm running some OEM Silverdo 20's for wheels with 275 45's on it.

Right now I have a stock lq4 with a tune, electric fans, long tube headers, and a 125 shot of NOS on it. Truck is really fun, but I think I could do a little better. I don't like it that the truck is done by 4500 to 4700.

The truck is a daily driver. The truck is used to pull a race car every two weeks to the track. This is the only towing done with the truck. Truck will never see the track unless I just run it for fun.

My goals is to improve the overall powerband of the motor. I do not want to lose my current bottom end, but I would like to gain a little up top to around 5000 to 5500. Not interested in a 6000 rpm motor.

My idea of nice build with room to grow in the future would be the following.

I would bore the motor .030 over to make a 370. Get a set of LS2 rods and flat top pistons. This would be a nice short block to work with.

Cam is up in the air. I would like to keep it "ALL GM." I'm looking at the z06 cam. The one with about .555 lift. I feel that would not be to much cam, but I'm not really sure. I know alot of guys are going to recommend something in the 218 to 225 area. Again, I would like to keep this thing under 6000. I like alot torque and broad powerband.

I figure a nice set of worked over 243's would be great. Mill them to match the compression to about 10.5 and living with running 93 octane. However, wondering if I could get by with 87 or 89.

I figure I would keep the truck intake and fuel rails for the time being and might upgrade if I install a larger cam in the future.

Again I will still have the 125 shot of NOS for fun when I wanted it.

I figured a 400 horse/400 torque combo would be great for the street.

Opinions??

IMHO.... don't bore a block just to get the extra cubes..... it is money wasted..... if the block doesn't need boring..... don't bore it....

If you are making 1.1 HP / ci , that would mean you only picked up 5 HP due to the boring....... plus that is at least one less time you can bore it later when it does actually need to be bored....... at that point.... you'll have to source a replacement block.

I totally agree with this.

I agree as well. It make sense.

I have bored a fresh 350 block to .030 over to get a 383 though. It fit the build. People are going to agree and disagree on that move, but hey it was done.

Anyone want to dissect the proposed build some more?
