Default Cam and stall question

If I got a cam that has a powerband off idle to about 6XXX RPM would I still need a stall for my car? (It is an A4, OBVIOUSLY) I have been hearing yes and no about the whole ordeal.

I also wanted to know if anyone had any certain preferences on cams. I mean I'm not buying one now, probably later, but I just kinda want to get an idea of whats good and whats not. I'm kinda looking for something streetable with a good idle and good hp increase.

You will need a converter other than stock for sure. Your car will be faster with a stall and stock cam than aftermarket cam and stock stall.

Any A4 car should get a torque converter no matter what cam you have. Even with your stock cam you will benefit greatly from getting a higher stall torque converter. As for cam selection try talking to different vendors about what you want out of your car and what your using it for. Also do some searching around here for reviews of cams and what other guys are using.

Even if the cam worked in the range of the stock converter I would still need to change it out and get something like a Yank 3600?

yea one of the first mods any auto owner should make it a stall converter. You won't be able get the grin off your face when you feel the difference.

I'm happy yet angry lol. It's more money but it'll make the car a HELL lot quicker. So essentially a stalled and cammed car would be absolute rape right? That's the image I'm getting haha.

Well I have seen LS1's with just LT headers and stall, pretty beast.

I also feel dumb asking this but WHY is this the case? (To where I require an a-market stall with an a-market cam)

I would go with a yank ss4000, it really is a great converter.

Every and ANY cam "has" a powerband starting at 1RPM, however their peak and under the curve power will vary greatly.
Larger than stock cams will often have this ideal number at a higher RPM than your stock cam
You want to get to the optimal RPM faster, this is accomplished by looser converter.

210/218 112 is the biggest I would go with a stock stall. Rpm band of 1500-5700k.
