Default School me on Heads

Ok so I know next to nothing about heads. I've got enough money saved up for some head/cam swappage. I'm looking for a set heads that match up well with an MS4 or TRex cam. preferably a set that cost $1000 or less. I'm willing to shop around for a good used set if need be. Help me please. Thanks.

I may be picking up an MS3 cam (237/242 .603/.609", for anyone who's not familiar) and was wondering if any of these 3 heads would be good to pair with it.

The prc stage 2.5 5.3l head and ms3 is a proven combo and the packege from tsp is $1600 i think for heads, cam, springs, and pushrods. All you would need is the gaskets and a oil pump would be a great investment.

I'd strongly suggest that you save for the best heads you can get/afford and then when you have the heads have a custom cam spec'd around the flow characteristics of the heads. You'll make more power, and save money too ! No reason to have a .640 lift cam with a set of heads that lops air flow off at .625 Thats just more cam then your heads can use. I used that example because I'm steering you towards TFS 215's new or used, definately a best buy.

The PRC LS6 Stage 1 heads will clear the MS4 or Trex camshaft. That being said another good option is the PRC215 heads. They'll cost just about double the LS6 stage 1 heads ($2000ish), but it's still a big chunk of cash less than the other aftermarket casting brands. With the PRC 215s you can run stock rockers saving you another $500..

I'm currently leaning towards MS4 and LS6 heads. Next question, what else am I going to need for the install. I already have Patriot dual gold springs and Trickflow 7.4 pushrods. Are the 7.4's the right size?

If you are going with the MS4 and the LS6 heads I would do Comp 921 springs. Also do the LS6 valves they will lighten your valve train specially with an MS4 cam. When it comes to rod size you really need to use a collapsible rod and check for length. Another good piece of advice have AI do the cam matching just my personal preference they are top notch when it comes to head work.

I provided valves, springs, retainers and heads.I paid $1085 for all the work they did and I am very happy. I am running a costume grind from Ed Curtis close to the MS3 and it is through an A4. You can look at my sig and see what all I have done and my HP output.
