Question '98LS1 block max honing?

Hi fellas. Anyone know if it's ok to hone out my block to 3.906? It is a 1998 Z-28. ScogginDickey sells a set of speed pro pistons, rings,ARP rod bolts, rod and main bearings for $699. I wanted to use these in my build. Adding a set of Patriot LS6 Stage2 heads and their 226/226 585/585 112LSA cam, Kooks long tube headers and y pipe with hi-flow cats,Edelbrock exhaust, and an LS6 intake.Gonna get a custom tune also. How much power think that'll make? 440 maybe? Thanks.

I have heard that the 98 blocks had thinner sleeves than the other years, Maybe something you want to look into a little more, I am building a stroker myself mine is a 98 block and I chose to stick with a 3.903 piston. You might hit that number but that LS6 intake will hold back your full potential.

Yeah I have read that on '98 blocks the most honing recommended by GM is.004. Think getting a FAST intake would up the power and be worth the cash? Cash really isn't an issue. I am fortunate to have a good paying job. Thanks bro.

Brook, they are being ultra safe but you can hone it to that no problem and you will be fine.

Thanks Eric. Your advice is appreciated. So, when I take it to a machine shop and ask for them to hone it out, do I tell them to go to 3.906(the size of the new pistons) or just a tad bigger? The rings I will be using are 1.5,1.5,and 3.0mm.

Brook,

The clearance is built into the piston so they would just need to hoine it to the 3.906. If you were doing serious NOS or another power adder they might want to add a lil more additional clearance but otherwise just hone it to 3.906.
