Default cost of cam install on 02 Z28.

What is a rough estimate of what it would cost to have a cam installed?

If you want someone else to do it for you and get the right parts to do the upgrade correctly and with all the parts, you looking at $2500.00 + or - easy. That includes the cam, springs with parts, push rods, and tune. Some also do timing chain and upgrade oil pump to be safe. This is just what I got from my research. Bet a sponsor on here can give you a much better figure for what they do. If you do it yourself cam, you can lower that $ down to around $1k or less, depending on how much you do in parts. Cam runs from $300-$500, push rods will go lil over $100, springs depending on which ones you get will also go around $100 + or -, then if you add in timing chain its another $100ish, and oil pump is also $120ish for the ported shimmed ones, maybe more. Then you just need to get the fluids to replace the ones you will loose in the install, and WP gaskets. I have a cam I am waiting to get installed, but just haven't had the time to do it yet. So most of these figures are from my research and what I have gotten together. Also, look to see what some of the members here have. I got some Texas Speed push rods off a member here for a good price. Its not really that bad of a price to buy the parts and do it yourself, but if you get a business to do it for you, your cost will go up for labor and the tune, but if you cant do it yourself, then thats the way to go.

Cam installation /w valvespring upgrade is $350 in labor on a fbody.

Street tune is additional $250 or Dyno tune for $300

I believe due to our relatively low overhead we are quite a bit under the average LSx performance shop.

Yeah thats below the average. Around here most places are 600+ for labor (not including spring upgrade), then 500+ for dyno tune. Fortunately I found one for far less than that

Find someone that has LS series experience or do it your self as the heads and intake do not have to come off. There are shortcuts and special tools(sold by sponsors on this site) that someone with LS series experience will take advantage of saving time which in turn saves money on labor. The first question I would ask if I was going to let someone do a cam swap for me(which I wouldn't do) is "Do you use the Vinci/Crane tool". If they say no or look at you like your crazy move on.

How much would labor be if the motor isn't installed in the car yet? I was thinking of doing it myself, but if you can do it cheap enough I may avoid the headache and save some time. (not happening any time soon mind you, just a good opportunity to ask)

As much as I love turning wrenches if I needed a cam and spring swap done and on F body and could get it done for $350 I'd have to jump on it. Certainly having the engine on a stand should lower the price because everything is right there. With the engine in the vehicle you have to get the radiator, condenser, grill and intake plenum all out of the way. Then you have to lay over the fenders to do much of the work. To me the most tedious part is the spring swap othter than pulling and stabbing the cam itself, but I custom made a handle to make this step easier too. That's why I think the Vinci/Crane tool is so important. To me that tool pays for itself the first time you use it. I'd find out who is doing cam and spring swaps for $350 and ask for a discount since the engine is on a stand. That really cuts down on the work time since all the extraneous stuff you normally have to do is out of the picture not to mention the fact that it's a whole lot easier to work on an engine mounted on a stand rather than leaning over the fenders.

we charge $650 for f-bodys,gto's,g8's (keeping DOD) and $800 for c5.c6,c6 z06
$900 c6 zr1 includes misc fluids except engine oil.
tune is as extra $450 if we do the cam install and that is a full street/dyno tune.

not cheap but we stand behind our work 100%, and you will have trouble finding many people dissatified with our work
