Difference in oiling from pre-04 & post 04 blocks??? Lifter bleed down difference?

I have a 00 LS1 block & an 06 LS6 block. The LS1 block oiling must be different because it takes longer for the lifters to pump up & start oiling the valve train. For this reason, the lifters must be bleeding down more than in the LS6 block, or the oil passages to the lifters must be larger in the LS6 block.

Same oil pump, lifters & valve train; only difference are the blocks. What's up w/ this?

Lifter pre-load changes make no difference. Also, thought that prepping the oil pump w/ gobs of vaseline may have caused a temparary volume problem, but, have now run the engine 4 times which should have been enough to move the vaseline out of the pump.

there are different oil journals in the LS6 block but all i know is they are bigger on the front of the block and something about the crank oiling that is different

How well does vasolone dissolve in oil? I used Redline Assembly Lube and it dissolves almost instantly and moves through the oil system without problems. Never heard of using vasoline.

Maybe Vaseline doesn't dissolve in oil, and the filter is plugged. I would try mixing them in a clear vessel and observe.

i know vasoline is a old engine builders trick but never done it myself. i used comp assembly lube to make the oil pump slick inside so it can create a suction

Pressure is good & the heat alone should dissolve the vaseline. I have used vaseline before, just not as much as was used this time. As something to try, am gonna change the filter, as suggested above.

Put some vaseline in oil & heated it up until the vaseline dissolved. Could touch it without getting burned, so it probably dissolved @ around 105-115*F. Put a new filter on & checked the contents of the removed filter. Removed filter had no signs of vaseline in it.

W/ new filter installed, started it & had the same results. Takes longer for the lifters to pump oil to the valvetrain than the LS6 block. Maybe I'm just making too much out of it. Could just be part of the improvement that GM made to the LS6 block. I know that the LS6 block uses shorter head bolts as well. Not that this has anything to do w/ oiling, it's just another difference to note.
