6.0 main cap question
do all the main bearings not go tab-to-tab? if you put all the caps in the direction they look right the bearings line up tab to tab. but if you install them they way everyone shows them installed they dont all line up tab to tab. whats the deal? and when you do it the way it looks to be right the crank is completley locked up. do it the way people show it turns great. so do the tabs go to the block? and whats this business about prying the crank forward?is it necassary?

The tabs will be on opposite sides. The rear cap is the one that faces the opposite direction from the front 4. The factory stamped numbers for caps 1-4 should be on the drivers side of the block. Number 5 should be on the passenger side. IF any machining of the mains has taken place with the caps in any other orientation you are on your own if they haven't been marked. You are binding the crank right now. Try it with the factory orientations and see if it doesn't free right up... And yes, you should tap the crank backward and forward with a rubber mallet to align the thrust bearing before final torquing the caps.
