Default Should I rebuild? How much $?

I just found an LS1 and T56 for my Corvette. It's out of a 2000 T/A. It's been sitting for over a year and a half. The guy I'm buying from bought it to put it into something and lost interest. My question is: what should I do to ensure that it runs well? I got a quote from a local race motor shop for "about $2,500 for teardown, inspection, hot tanking, re-ringing, bearings, and reassembly". This seems a little high to me. Should I even bother or should I just run the motor as is? Is there a way to pre-oil these motors before start-up? I'm going to do a leak down check as soon as I get the motor.

Thanks alot.

Hell you can buy a complete shortblock for under $2000.

It's been sitting for a year and a half? Find a fresher motor. I have a 26,000 miles LS1 that didn't sit that long and it's going to have to be re-ringed. A full blown rebuild with all machining etc can easily go for ~$2000 if a high quailty shop does it. Of course it can be done for less.

I'd skip that motor and find one out of a freshly wrecked car that hasn't been sitting.
