Default Possible lifter Failure - What to look for

I got about 3000 miles on the engine now and just developed a new noise. Not the sewing machine noise or push rods hitting heads either. I can hear it in the car. I found several cars on Youtube that sounded just like mine that fixed their noise by changing the lifters. I have LS7 lifters running about .075 to .080 pre load with Harland Sharp 1.8 rockers and PRC dual springs. Cam is a 226, 222, 116 LSA. With the 1.8 rockers I am around .620 lift. Engine has never been past 5800 RPM, oil has been changed at least ever 1000 miles. I am worried that I might have a bad roller or mayber a flat spot on the lifter since there does not seem to be noise coming from the rockers. I am going to take it apart this weekend to see what is going on.
My questions are: When I get it apart, and dont see any major signs of damage is there any way to check a lifter to see if its bad? Any other things to look for?
Also I am contemplating getting rid of the LS7 lifters if one already failed. Are there any lifters that setup as easily as the LS7 that are as good as the morels?

Have you looked for the basics like headers leaks? Hard to believe you have a failure already, if everything was put together correctly, with only 3000 non-revving miles.

No leaks. Noise is coming from valley area. I am surprised too so we will see what I find when I get it apart.

Got everything apart and did not find anything obvious. Inspected lifters, trays, rockers, and valve springs. Even pulled the cam. Anyone have any other ideas? It seems like it is probably just one lifter but I have no way to know for sure.
