Question Exhaust Question and Need ideas

Hey guys,

Name is Shawn. I have a 1999 SS Camaro LS1. Here is what she has done.

Ported heads,
Cam,
Ported Intake,
Hooker Headers,
4" pipe going to Borla Exhuast (No Cats),
B&M Shifter.

Ok here is the deal. ITS TOO LOUD!!!! It was awesome at first, but people cant hear me on the phone when i drive, I start it up at 6am to warm up for work and the neighbors get pissed, and it attracts way too much attention from the law.

Im 25 and past the whole "My car is louder then you car" phase.

I want to put a different muffler on it to calm her down.
What would you guys say would be good to put on that isn't so loud?

Thanks guys.

From what I've seen, and heard, Magnaflow would be the way to go. Quiet at idle and cruising, but screams and sounds mean at WOT. If I wasn't such a big fan of true duals, I'd probably put a Magnaflow catback on my car.

Are you totally anti-catalytic converter?

I run as High-flow cats as possible. That solves the problem. You can always go the route of an electric cutout if you want the additional 3-7 HP gain from bypassing the cats.

I am probably missing something in understanding your setup. So, I apologize if my suggestion is not applicable. Perhaps that is not possible (cats). But, it actually sounds good with a regular Header-Y-Pipe catback setup.

I'm with you. A nice-sounding mellow but sound beats wake up and **** all your neighbors off sound (unless thats what you want).

Good luck, either way.

I really don't think the Cats rob you that much, especially if they are High-Flow. I was thinking 1-2 at the most. I'm thinkin I read that somewhere but it's been a while. It was about some guy that needed to pass emissions but didn't wanna lose power or something like that, I could be wrong but I wouldn't think "High Flow" Cats would be a 3-7 HP loss.
