Default shops for a cam install

looking to get the new era low lift cam package and since its to far to drive out was wondering if you guys could recommend a good local shop out here in chicago or maybe someone that has experience and i would be in good hands with.also would need a tune from my understanding. have never tried something like this and not to familiar with engines to try a project like this so just trying to get some suggestions also what would be a good "decent" price for the cam, valvesprings, rockers, and pushrods and a tune?

i say get a friend, ls1howto guide, case of a beer, and tackle it yourself. its really not that difficult. my dad and i did mine. its pretty self explanatory and straight forward for the most part. im sure others would agree.

i thought about that but really just scared as far as lifters go.i might just drop them and then il really be SOL. or also heard that the rocker bolts tend to come loose and when you use a spring compressor it breaks the heads off the bolts ...lol just a bunch of stuff kinda got me traumatized..

Take your time and make a lifter support tool out of aluminum rod from home depot, and if you want extra insurance, get 16 pen magnets also from home depot - your lifter worries will be solved. Use the crane valve spring tool, and put the rocker bolts in with loktite and you'll have no problems there.

All of the issues you have heard about have solutions that mostly involve taking the time to do it right.

you guys are very helpfull
almost got my courage back!
lol
ok so from my understanding (sorry for the stupid question ) but yea i just take out the spark plugs wire, spark plugs and then just stick an aluminium stick in til it hits the wall and with the pen magnets i just put them in the pushrod holes?idk and also my car has DOD so i dont know if all the lifters are metal so idk if the penmagnets would work.

That seems like 300-400 for tune and I hope the cam and springs are included with that price.

you have a LS4? They are harder to work on remember, (FWD) that price isn't that bad I think your tring to compair this work to a 4th gen, you can't.

true true but then again to swap cam i just gotta take off the passenger tire not the whole radiator and all that but then again.im providing parts .rockers, pushrods, valve springs, retainers etc, plus cam, gear set with seals so the price is just for install and a basic tune.basically just program idle speed and thats about it.

also i got a quote from new era for parts and install for a thousand dollars so when i get a quote for 1300 just on install it seems a lil steep.thats just me i understand its alot of work and to leave it up to the professionals they gotta make their money but that just doesnt sound right to me.
