Default Milling 853s??

Hi Ive been getting some prices on getting my shortblock freshend with new rods/bolts/bearings/pistons. I cant really afford a new set of heads but was thinking maybe I could mill them down and switch out my 224 cam to something a little more aggressive. I know I would have to check PTV clearance. So could I have my 853s milled down? All feedback is welcome. Thanks guys.

p&p and a valve job would do you better.

True, but no reason why you can't do both. You'll get a compression bump by milling those heads as well.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. The machine shop said it would bump compression up to 10.75 or so. And I would have them do a valve job too.

You have 66CC chambers. The thing is what is your cam selection and how much milling are you going to do. Also you can just mill but why. While 853s are not my first choice if that's all you have to work with make sure that you are running the correct cam head set up. Also how much compression are you looking for, are you adding any power adders later on down the line and how much are you going to invest into those heads. There are a lot of heads out there 853s already with work done to them for very cheap, me you I'd search around before starting to dump money into them.

Good Luck

Thanks for advice. The car does have a 150 shot on it as of now. The motor is a 224 cam, bolt-ons. ls6 intake, 4.10s and the 853s. I could probably find a set of 5.3s for cheeper. I am looking to get up around 10.75 to 11.00 or so. Not too sure what cam I would go with if I switch it out. I know this is going to sound crazy but I know the t-rex cam is a very aggressive cam and bigger isnt always better, but I love the sound of one of those at idle. The car is only a fun toy. Not a daily driver at all. So having a aggressive setup isnt a problem. Also I know milling might present a problem with that cam with the PTV clearence. Just trying to get a bunch of different inputs here.

I would talk to Ed Curtis I am running one of his cams right now AZPS02. The cam is bad as hell and I am running 11s with it and 243s by AI Stage I. That cam loves Nitrous and that is exactly what I am doing as we speak. When I am done she should be in the 600+ rwhp through the LS1 stock bottom end and yes its an A4.
