I need to replace my short block and get my car up and running asap. I located an LQ4 short block in town from an ls1tech member. It's got ~90k miles and he's asking $500, does that sound about right? Money is tight so I am trying to do this w/o spending too much.

I have done some searching and found most answers I had. What I am wondering now is should I use my existing 806 heads or buy the LQ4 heads ($150). Also will my rockers, lifters, MS3 cam, pushrods work in the LQ4? How much of a power increase can I expect assuming the only thing changing is the block and heads if they make a difference?

the lq4 piston have a dish in them so u will loose alittle compression

 

why cant i ever find deals like this! this is exactly what i need. good luck with it! i cant find them for under 800 bucks

 

any idea how much? lower compression isn't necessarily bad tho, I can up the timing and lean it out, or run lower octane if I want.

 

lq4 is 9.4 to 1 lq9 is 10 to 1, at least thats what i read somewhere

 

Yes thats right..Lq4 uses dished pistons Lq9 uses flattop. '01 up Lq4 uses the same 317 heads as Lq9 but older that '01 used cast steel heads.

 

So it sounds like with the same tune I'd probably make about the same power right? More displacement, less compression.

Now what about the heads, LS1 flow rates vs LQ4?

 

LQ4 Heads are alot better than the LS1 Heads.
