Default what cam for 5.3??

I am thinking about getting a custom cam for my 5.3. I have this engine swapped in my mustang and am wanting a max performance cam. I am not worried about street manners. I just want the cam that is going to make the most power with stock heads, truck intake and long tubes.

What kind of rwhp is achievable with a cam only 5.3?

i think the 5.3 heads use the small 1.84 intake valves, so u'd want a reverse split cam, maybe something like a 236/230?

1.89" intake valves.

op if i were you i'de upgrade to 2.00 valves and have the heads p&p'd. cam wont really do much if you aren't getting the air in and out properly. do head work first...that's my .02

then when ever it comes time to do the cam, have pat g spec u out a cam. and do springs, push rods, timing set, and oil pump

I would check over at PT as well. More trucks over there can tell you what they have done with their 5.3's as opposed to mostly 5.7's and 6.0's over here. FWIW I have a 221/226 cam in my 4.8l.
