Advancing Torquer 2 Cam

I was reading around about advancing the Torquer V2 cam that i have in my LS6. A couple people suggested 2*, and a couple suggesting 4* including PatG. But haven't found any real world results.

Has anyone done this and have good results? Im about to swap out my crank pulley with a UD pulley and this would be a good time to throw an adjustable cam gear in there and advance it.

My Torquer V2 is on a 113 LSA

what
lsa/icl is your TV2?

I want to say that my icl was 110. My cam card is at home so I'm not 100% sure

here is the cam card

Your cam is on a 113 LSA and 110 ICL

That means it is allready advanced 3*. What I would do is degree it at that ICL, but I would not advance it further. I would raise the compression if added lower rpm performance is required.

You can call me a newb when it comes to degreeing cams but, I lined it up dot to dot on install and bolted her back together. Are you saying that I am 3* retarded right now?

How did you read retarded?????

No not 3* retarded now. Dot to Dot which is the most common method is not always at the spec'd ICL sometimes its close but not exact where it needs to be for max performance of that desired cam.I.E different cams for different setups. Since its on a 110ICL and on a 113LSA its already got 3* advance ground in. So if you were to advance it any more theoretically if you went 4 youd actually be at 7* advanced now. Pat G prolly recommended 4 not knowing the exact specs of the cam if I had to guess. What I just said is pretty much in a nutshell of the whole picture but predator and pat g could go into even more technical specs.

Finally some one with a TV2 with similar specs to my XER281HR lol, mine has the 3* advance ground in as well. Honestly it has good grunt low down, just not as much as I would expect a "cammed" car to have - it does make it easy to drive in traffic though.

How do you like it? Do you have any vids of it?

I like the cam. Just want a little more out of it. Vids are at home. I'll try and get one uploaded. I was just reading on the cam and found those threads. So basically I want to get a degree kit and install it on 109 icl to make 4* overall advance???

I think it would depend on the range where you want "more". If you want to move the power-band higher up, advance it, if you want to make more mid range/low end, retard the cam. (generally speaking if I remember right).

On mine, which I believe is installed dot to dot, power doesn't really come in until about 3k rpm or more.

PREDATOR-Z 04-02-2010 01:27 PM

As I mentionned, no need to advance further. Try to raise your compression. Every 1 point in compression raise is about 3>4% power increase.

so being that i installed dot to dot... do you think its worth the money to buy a degree kit and ensure i have max lift at 110* of crank revolution? Or should i just leave it alone?

-T- 04-02-2010 04:18 PM

Also... as far as compression ratio goes, I think stock is 10.5CR from the 64.4cc chambers. If i go with a cometic gasket say at around .040, how much will that raise my compression from stock thickness MLS?

I think i read somewhere that every .005" you move the head closer to the deck is worth 1cc of chamber size decrease. Does this hold any water?

I thought retarding the cam moved the band higher and advancing it moved it lower. It works likes this for ignition timing as well. I remember turning distributors and it changes the whole way the motor pulls, from throttle response off idle and all the way up to redline.

You are correct and buying an adjustable gear set is a waste to gain 1* of advance IMO....
