Default cam swap?

Hey im swapping a ls6 cam into my chevrolet silverado with a 5.3. Is there any other upgrades i should do such as valve springs or pushrods when i swap this cam or is the factory stuff good? And i know they sell a tool to swap the cam at thunder racing but do they sell an off brand or is there a way to do it with out spending the $100 for a tool or having to pull the heads. Thanks for the help.

Yeah you need to go with a stronger spring to handle the LS6 cam... so you need the TR tool...

Id do springs, rods, and gaskets for sure. That's standard with any cam install.

At the very least do gaskets, springs, PR's, and a new crank pulley bolt. Hell i would even change the timing chain while your there.

Also dont forget the stupid stuff. Coolant, loctite, RTV, maybe a new thermostat, belt if its bad. Also R134a if you have to drain your A/C sytem to get it out of the way. ( Ive never worked on the Silverado so some of these may not apply ).

Which tool are you referring to? If it is the tool to hold up the lifters, then just pick up some 5/16 metal rod at Home Depot and make your own tool. Also, don't follow the procedure at LS1howto.com on removing and installing the pulley. When you remove, completely remove the bolt and push on the end of the crank snout by pressing on a socket or large allen head that fits in the crank snout. When you install, make a tool to push the pulley back on.
